Recently, YouTube introduced a faster way for creators to join the YouTube Partner Program, and monetize their channels. With these fresh guidelines, upcoming YouTubers can now make money on YouTube like never before!
-
What are the new terms?
According to the new terms, creators can apply to join the YouTube Partner Program, if they have:
- 500 Subscribers.
- 3 long-form public video uploads in the last 90 days.
- 3000 public watch hours on long-form videos in the past year,
As an alternative, creators can also join the YPP if they have 3 Million public Shorts views in the last 90 days instead of 3000 watch hours.
This is a drastic drop from the previous requirements where creators required 1000 subscribers, 4000 watch hours, and 10 Million Shorts views.
-
How do these new terms affect Monetization?
Previously, being a part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), meant access to Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, Shopping, and more. This is where creators gain most of their revenue. Creators also gain additional income through Fan Funding features like Channel Memberships and Super features.
While you still need to meet the previous requirements of 1000 subscribers, either 4000 watch hours or 10 Million Shorts views to gain monetization through Ads.
However, with the now lowered requirement, you can join the YPP with 500 subscribers and gain revenue through many Fan Funding Features.
-
Get early access to FAN FUNDING Features
With Fan Funding features creators can earn money directly from their audience. These features allow loyal fans to support and fund their favourite creators in return for exclusive content, channel memberships, merch, and more. This gives creators the opportunity to earn a little extra while actively engaging with their audience.
Earlier, the threshold for unlocking these features was 1000 subscribers. However, with the new, relaxed terms, creators can start earning sooner on YouTube with Fan Funding features like Channel Membership, Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and more.
-
Where are these new terms eligible?
For now, YouTube has started to roll out these new terms in Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. The platform aims to extend these changes to all countries that are part of the YouTube Partner Program in the future.
-
How to apply?
After achieving the new requirements, you’ll be eligible to apply and join the YPP. To apply, go to YouTube Studio and click on “Earn”. The good news is once you apply, you won’t have to re-apply again when you meet the higher eligibility requirements for YouTube Advertising and Premium Subscriptions.
