Get ready to make some money with the Channel Memberships feature! YouTube Channel Memberships let your loyal fans support you by joining your channel for a monthly membership fee. This feature is a wonderful way to make some money while having fun with your audience!

  • WHAT ARE CHANNEL MEMBERSHIPS?

Channel Memberships allow creators to earn some extra cash by providing their audience with some exclusive content. These include Members-only Community posts, exclusive videos, bonus live streams, personalized badges and emojis, and more.

Activating channel memberships doesn’t mean replacing your regular content with membership posts. It’s just another way for you to forge a deeper connection with your audience while also supplementing your income.

  • HOW TO ACCESS CHANNEL MEMBERSHIPS?

To access Channel Memberships, you need to ensure that-

– You are a part of the YouTube Partner Program

– Your Channel is Not made for kids

– You live in one of the available countries

– Your channel does not have too many ineligible videos

– You agree to all YouTube terms and policies

If you meet these requirements, you will be able to see the Memberships tab by clicking “Earn” in YouTube Analytics.

Once you activate this feature, a “Join” button will appear on your channel homepage beside your “Subscribe” button. By clicking on this button your audience will be able to support your channel according to a price range they prefer.

  • CHANNEL MEMBERSHIP PERKS

To get your audience to support you on your YouTube journey, you will also have to offer them some exclusive member-only perks:

Members-only videos

Based on the tier they choose, Channel members will enjoy the privilege of accessing their favorite creators’ videos before the general audience. This exclusive benefit adds value to their membership and enhances their overall viewing experience.

Members-only live streams and live chat

Connect with your loyal members in real time for an interactive experience exclusively for them. During these live stream events, you can engage in live chat discussions allowing members to interact with you directly. While everyone can watch the live stream, only members can participate in live chats.

Members-only Community posts

Use the community tab to share exclusive content with your members alone. If your channel has different membership levels, you can tailor Community posts to specific member tiers. Leverage this feature to give special shoutouts to members, personally answer their queries, interact with them through polls, take their suggestions for new content, or even offer a glimpse into your personal life!

Member Milestone Chats

Channel members who have been a member for at least two months can celebrate their membership anniversary by sending one special highlighted message per month in live chat!

You need to ensure that the creation of Membership posts does not clash with the making and uploading of your regular content. Set a pace that you can commit to and don’t bite off more than you can chew.

  • HOW TO GET YOUR AUDIENCE TO JOIN?

To get more supporters, make a video informing your audience about the Join button on your channel. Let them know why the feature will help you grow and how you plan on using their funds; whether it is to fund a specific video or for a piece of equipment.

Regularly drop hints about the happenings of the members-only content in your videos to attract more viewers to join and support your channel.

  • PRICING LEVELS

As of July 2023, you can offer your audience different Tiers or levels of perks. You can create up to 6 different levels, and each level must include between 1 and 5 perks. The price levels increase with the range of perks. This means that the higher the price, the more perks your audience receives.

This is why YouTube recommends that creators have at least 3 options for potential members- low, middle, and high. Check out the different Pricing levels you can offer.

  • REVENUE SHARE

The catch here is that YouTube will deduct 30% of your earnings for taxes and fees. This means that creators will receive only 70% of the membership revenue.

Despite this, you can still earn a significant portion from Membership revenue. The silver lining here is that you get to build a deeper and more personal connection with your audience. So, don’t be discouraged by this small drawback; Channel Memberships still remain a promising option for your creator journey!
