YouTube’s trending section is a place where every YouTuber wants to flaunt their videos. However, this spot is only reserved for the select few videos that can crawl through the clutter and make it to the top. To get on the trending section, your video has to have a high watch time, comply with YouTube guidelines and be relevant to your audience. And here’s how you can make your way to YouTube’s most wanted spot.

1. Ask your subscribers to enable notifications

A surefire way to increase views almost immediately after publishing your video is to notify your subscribers. Tell subscribers to click the bell notification if they want to be notified as soon as you post your next video.

2. Include timely topics

Stay on top of global news and post content that people are talking about. If you’re one of the few first to post content about a topic that’s just started to trend, your video is going to pick up like wildfire.

3. Target videos that are already trending

Look for videos that are already trending on YouTube. Find out what points the video is missing and address these missing areas. You can take the story from a different angle or share your own perspectives. Look in the comments sections to find out what fans to see.  For example, if you find a trending video about “5 ways to style your hair for a Christmas party”, you can do a video on “5 ways to do your makeup for a Christmas party.”

4. Post relevant content people in your country can relate with

The trending sections shows top videos that are trending in the country. So your content must be relevant to a broad audience. Tailor your topics according to topics people in your country can relate with. For example, if you’re reviewing movies, talk about a regional movie that’s being released in your country, rather than reviewing a movie release elsewhere in the world.

5. Promote your videos within the first 1-3 days after it’s published

As soon as you publish your video, make sure you begin promoting it immediately. When the video gains more views over a short burst of time, it’s more likely to show up on the trending section.

6. Put trending videos on the same topic in a playlist and enable autoplay

Another great tactic is to create multiple videos around a particular trend. Club these videos in a separate playlist and turn the autoplay feature on. People who click on one of these videos will automatically be taken to the next video in your playlist.

7. Don’t use adult content or swear words

Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, confirms that YouTube pre-vets videos before they make it to the trending list. Videos that have swear words or adult content are filtered out.

8. Make short videos which are less than 10 minutes long

Your videos must have a high watch-time for it to appear on the trending section. Make sure your videos are not too long or too short. 2-7 minutes is the magic number to attract viewers and keep their attention span flowing throughout the entire video duration.

Keep going strong with these steps and you’ll see your video rocketing up the trending section!
